Overcoming anorexia can feel very daunting. It can be difficult to take those first steps to ask for help, or to start to make changes. And motivation can wax and wane during treatment. It can also be difficult for family and friends to fully understand what anorexia is like, or to know how to help.

If you would like to read more about anorexia nervosa, recovery or how to help someone with anorexia nervosa, here are some books and other resources we would recommend:

  • Beating Your Eating Disorder - Glen Waller and colleagues

  • Brave Girl Eating - Harriet Brown

  • Anorexia Nervosa: A Recovery Guide for Sufferers, Families, and Friends - Janet Treasure and June Alexander

  • Skills-based Learning for Caring for a Loved One with an Eating Disorder - Janet Treasure, GrĂ¡inne Smith and Anna Crane

Other Useful Resources

  • The Centre for Clinical Interventions: A website with self-help modules to help you address a range of eating disorder and body image issues using a CBT frame work

  • Recovery Record: A useful app to help people with eating disorders monitor food and mood, with a recovery focus
