Dyslexia Awareness Month!
It's dyslexia awareness month!!!
Do you know anyone who is dyslexic? It's highly likely as it is thought that approximately 12% of the world’s population has dyslexia.
Dyslexia - the facts:
People with dyslexia have strong narrative memories. Meaning that facts are stored as stories with detail and information woven together.
‘Dyslexic thinking’ has been added to Linkedin profiles and is a desirable trait for companies. Why might you ask?! Creative and lateral thinking allows dyslexic individuals to problem solve creatively and see the bigger picture with numerous ways how to get there.
Dyslexic people are very skilled at being ‘observers’. Enabling them to apply this lateral thinking and creative problem solving.
Individuals who have dyslexia are also emotionally intelligent with high levels of empathy for others.
Having dyslexia is my superpower! Being able to observe the bigger picture and use lateral thinking to creatively solve problems I am able to find solutions to seeming impossible conundrums. I am also very skilled at making connections between themes and narratives. This has helped my development as a Clinician.
This means that dyslexics make great therapists!
Here at the London centre, we have a number of dyslexic therapists and celebrate their neurodiversity!
